Web.com Announces New Jobs for Jacksonville
Last month Web.com announced its plans to create more than 200 jobs in the Jacksonville region. Mayor Alvin Brown, JAX Chamber Chair Tom Van Berkel and City Council President Stephen Joost were on hand to help David Brown, CEO, and the company celebrate this great announcement.
Web.com is the largest website developer in the country and gives energy to our growing IT industry. With its most recent acquisition of Network Solutions, the company is adding resources in Jacksonville to accelerate its outreach for the nearly three million customers it now serves. Web.com has tripled its sales volume with the acquisition of Register.com in 2012 and Network Solutions in 2011. The company has increased its Jacksonville employee base by 10 percent in just the last two months, bringing its total employment in the region to almost 500.

Embraer Update
You may recall that Embraer, and its partner Sierra Nevada Corp., selected Jacksonville as the site to build military airplanes for the Air Force. The company that lost the bid has filed suit with the Air Force and we are awaiting a decision that the Air Force followed the correct procedure in selecting Embraer, and eliminating Hawker Beechcraft Corp.
We are working diligently through our Congressional delegation to stay on top of the process and anticipate a positive outcome on the Air Force’s contracting process and then hope to move forward quickly so that Embraer can begin manufacturing as soon as possible.
Mayor Alvin Brown wrote an editorial in support of Embraer and Sierra Nevada Corp., and we will be taking other steps to ensure that this airplane is able to be built in Jacksonville and moves forward at the earliest possible date. Stay tuned for more information on this project.

More than 1,000 business leaders from across the region attended JAXUSA's first quarter lunch that featured Shahid Khan. Khan discussed his business career and how joining the NFL ownership has changed his life. Khan then held a Q&A session where he answered questions pertaining to the Jacksonville economy, entrepreneurship, the Jaguars and expanding opportunities for our region. Khan said he wants to become Jacksonville's number one salesman and is committed to making sure our region gets its "fair share of the economic prize" that is around the corner. He is dedicated to seeing the Jaguars win on the field, but also off the field as well by using the brand in ways it has not been used before. He is a strong proponent for entrepreneurs and believes they are the backbone of this country. Khan is going to make the Jaguars an international brand and gain international exposure for our region at the same time. Welcome to Jacksonville Shahid Khan!
JAXUSA also awarded its first industry leader award of the year to Deutsche Bank for its outstanding business performance and corporate citizenship.
