Intermodal Transportation

Jacksonville’s central location, with access to three Interstate highways, three major rail lines, two deep water ports, four marine terminals, and a growing international airport has made Jacksonville America’s Logistics Center.

As the westernmost city on the eastern seaboard, Jacksonville has easy access to the 50 million residents in the Southeastern United States, as well as the populations of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the rest of North America. Northeast Florida is the main intersection of the three major Southeast transportation outlets – I-95, I-10 and I-75.

Because so many trucks unload goods to more than 18 million Florida residents, Jacksonville companies enjoy low backhaul shipping rates. And, CSX, Norfolk Southern and RailAmerica cover the entire region with their rail footprint, which reaches 27 of the nation’s top 50 metropolitan areas. The region boasts four major port terminals, making it one of the largest deep water port systems in the South Atlantic.

East Coast containerized shipping has swelled as a result of commitments by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and Hanjin to provide direct shipping service between Asia and Jacksonville, which will triple the container throughput at JAXPORT.

Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) offers 90 non-stop daily flights to 27 U.S. cities with an average ticket price that is 2 percent lower than the national average. After investing more than $300 million to construct and expand the terminal and its three concourses, JAX is now one of the most modern airports in the world. And, passengers are raving about the upgrades, which earned JAX the top ranking for overall customer satisfaction in a survey completed by Airports Council International.
