Military Installations 

 

Jacksonville is home to multiple military facilities, including Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, Marine Corps Blount Island Command and the Fleet Readiness Center. Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is located just outside the Jacksonville region in southeast Georgia. The Florida National Guard Headquarters is located in St. Augustine and utilizes Camp Blanding as an active training base.

 

Naval Air Station, Jacksonville is located in Northeast Florida in the south-central section of the city of Jacksonville, Florida. The base occupies 3,896 acres along the St. Johns River and employs more than 25,000 active duty and civilian personnel. Naval Air Station, Jacksonville is a multi-mission base hosting more than 100 tenant commands.

 

Naval Station Mayport is the third largest Fleet concentration area in the United States. The base’s operational composition is unique, with a busy harbor capable of accommodating 34 ships and an 8,000 foot runway capable of handling any aircraft in the Department of Defense inventory. With more than 3,400 acres, Naval Station Mayport is home to 70 tenant commands. Naval Station Mayport’s economic impact to Northeast Florida area is $1 Billion.

 

Marine Corps Blount Island Command plans, coordinates and executes the logistic efforts necessary to support the three Maritime Prepositioning Ships (MPS) squadrons, composed of 16 ships each. Blount Island Command is the only Marine Corps Staging Facility in the continental United States (CONUS).

 

The Naval Fleet Readiness Center Jacksonville is the largest of only three naval aviation depots in the country. Its mission is to perform depot maintenance and repair across all aviation repair areas: airframes, components and engines.

 

The Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay encompasses 12,590 acres of Government real property.  Approximately 5,500 acres are under a Government Forestry Management Program and 4,500 acres are marsh and water areas.

 

Camp Blanding Joint Training Center is the primary military reservation and training base for the Florida National Guard. The training center occupies a total of 72,000 acres and is located on the shore of Kingsley Lake in Clay County. Camp Blanding Museum and Memorial Park, which consists of Army, Navy and Air Force aircraft from various wars throughout history, is open to the public.

 

Florida National Guard Headquarters, St. Augustine has a membership of more than 9,900 National Guard personnel and more than 2,000 Air National Guardsmen. Additionally, there are nearly 350 employees of the Florida Department of Military Affairs.

 

125th Fighter Wing Florida Air National Guard provides air defense for the southeastern United States, from Charleston, South Carolina, to the southern tip of Florida and across the Florida panhandle. The Wing maintains and flies F-15 fighters at Jacksonville International Airport.
