General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of industrial giant General Dynamics, plans to open an operations center in Jacksonville and hire about 100 employees. General Dynamic is expanding to support rapidly growing contact center operations for federal government customers.

The Information Technology unit wants to build-out almost 47,000 square feet of space at a project cost of $500,000 at the North Jacksonville business center at 1 Imeson Park Blvd.

General Dynamics Information Technology provides IT, systems engineering, professional services and simulation and training to customers in the defense, federal civilian government, health, homeland security, intelligence, state and local government and commercial sectors. General Dynamics, based in Falls Church, Va., is No. 99 on the Fortune 500 list of the largest companies. The Information Technology unit is based in Fairfax, Va.
