Developments Continue for Downtown Jacksonville

The city continues to make significant progress on several Downtown projects including the Duval County Courthouse, the Laura Streetscape Improvements, Friendship Park and Treaty Oak Park.  The latter three projects are scheduled for completion this year and the courthouse is slated for completion in 2012.

“Certainly, private development in the core has slowed due to tight credit markets.  However, projects like the Laura Street Trio and Hayden Burns Library are potential catalyst projects that will bring additional benefits to the neighboring blocks,” said Terry Lorince, executive director, Downtown Vision.  “The proposed plans for these two key locations in the core have the potential to leverage existing Downtown businesses, provide connectivity and increase activity in the surrounding blocks.”

“While there are a few highlights for the core of Downtown, the report illustrates how dispersed and spread out development is in our Downtown,” added Lorince.  “Vibrant downtowns have density and that is our focus.”
