First-of-its-kind Foreign Trade Zone Opens in Jacksonville

North Florida Warehouse FTZ, a division of The JZ Expedited Companies, recently opened a 3.7 acre outside storage yard. The facility is the only outdoor foreign trade zone storage yard operated by a third-party logistics company in Northeast Florida.

The yard is designed to serve the long-term storage needs of importers, especially those with oversized materials. The yard’s first tenant was APR Energy, the Jacksonville-based mobile energy supplier, who stored four 70,000-pound turbines at the yard.

The storage facility allows importers to reduce or avoid duties and taxes they would pay if they stored supplies on JaxPort property while also allowing JaxPort to free up space.

Lisa Diaz, JaxPort manager of FTZ and logistics services, stated that the facility provides shippers added flexibility.
