R. J. Corman was founded In 1973 by Richard J. Corman, a native of Nicholasville, Kentucky. Corman starting doing railroad construction right after graduating high school and in a little over 35 years, he turned a railroad service company with a single backhoe into one of the nation’s leading railroad service providers. Headquartered in Nicholasville, Kentucky there are R. J. Corman divisions in 19 other states as far west as Arizona, employing over 1,000.

R. J. Corman will bring an estimated 58 jobs to Clay County by December 31, 2016. The average employee wage of $62,500 is two times the average wage in the County. The company also promised to make a capital investment of at least $100,000 within the County in connection with the project.

The Clay County site will be used to accelerate early stage growth in the company’s engineering of railroad signal system design, wiring, construction, maintenance, packaging and material warehousing and logistics. The company also considered Georgia and Kentucky during their search process but chose Clay County because of the quality of Florida’s engineering talent pipeline and low training costs.
