Embry-Riddle Among Nation’s Best Colleges in Undergraduate Engineering

Written by Mary Van Buren, U.S. News

In the category of Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs at Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Bachelor’s or Master’s, the university’s Prescott, Ariz., Campus is tied at No. 13 out of 198 schools, its highest rank ever, and is the No. 1 Arizona school in this category. This year’s ranking was also Prescott’s 11th appearance in the top 20.

“I’m very proud of our faculty for the steady upward trend in our Best Colleges ranking since we first appeared on the list in 2003,” said Dr. Ron Madler, Dean of the College of Engineering at the Prescott Campus. “We’re very near the top now, and with the opening of our new engineering labs in the STEM building next year, we are determined to keep climbing.”

This year the College of Engineering at the Daytona Beach, Fla., Campus is ranked with the Ph.D.-granting group of universities, placing it among the nation’s elite research institutions, including MIT, Caltech and Stanford.

In the specialty category of Best Undergraduate Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering Programs at Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Doctorate, the Daytona Beach Campus is tied at No. 16 among only 17 quality programs in the nation that were regarded strong enough to be ranked. Last year, when the campus was ranked among non-doctorate schools, it was No. 1 for 16 consecutive years.

Within these rankings, Embry-Riddle has the No. 1 undergraduate aerospace engineering program in Florida and the No. 2 undergraduate engineering program in the state, following the University of Florida.

Among Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs at Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Doctorate, the Daytona Beach Campus is tied for No. 84 out of 205 schools. Last year in the non-doctorate group it ranked in the top 12 for 14 consecutive years in the non-doctorate group.

“We’ve placed exceptionally well in our new classification and we intend to climb the ranks over the coming years,” said Dr. Maj Mirmirani, Dean of the College of Engineering at the Daytona Beach Campus. “I congratulate the engineering faculty for this great achievement – a well-deserved and impressive showing.”

U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 Best Colleges guidebook also ranks Embry-Riddle among the Best Regional Universities (South), tied at No. 12 out of a total of 105 schools. This is the 12th year in a row that Embry-Riddle has placed in the top 13.
