Florida Grant Funding to Benefit Crawford Diamond Industrial Site

In one of his last acts as sitting governor, Governor Rick Scott announced $5 million in grant funding for the Town of Callahan from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund. The funding will give Callahan in Nassau County the ability to provide water and wastewater to the Crawford Diamond industrial site, a 1,800-acre certified mega-site that has been approved for up to 10.5 million square feet of heavy industrial land use, which can include manufacturing, assembly, warehousing/distribution and use as an intermodal inland port or logistics center. The site has Dual Class I rail frontage from CSX and Norfolk Southern.

The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund was created to provide state funding to improve public infrastructure and enhance workforce training for state economic prosperity. Proposals are reviewed by Gov. Scott, the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and Enterprise Florida. In 2017-18, local governments and community colleges in Northeast Florida received nearly $17.5 million from the fund, including projects for roadway access at the Cecil Commerce Center Mega Site and Woodstock Industrial Park, workforce training programs at Florida State College at Jacksonville and St. Johns River State College and others.
