Jacksonville is emerging as a leader in liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Southeast as companies continue to invest in LNG in the area and major transport vessels, including Tote Maritime and Crowley ships, have been converted to LNG power. 

The JAX Chamber continually seeks innovative ways to be at the forefront of changing energy technologies and is working with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector (USCG) to promote safety in liquefied natural gas usage.

Jacksonville has become the epicenter for the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to power large marine vessels. The USCG Sector Jacksonville has extensive knowledge related to the safe and efficient use of LNG both as a marine fuel and in small and mid-market export applications.

Jacksonville business leaders and officials have been encouraging greater use of natural gas operations in Jacksonville – with efforts being led by the JAX Alliance, a business unit within the Chamber with a focus on growing the energy economy in Northeast Florida.

“The investment that private businesses are making in LNG here, combined with the expertise of the Coast Guard, makes Jacksonville the ideal location for this type of partnership,” said JAX Chamber President Daniel Davis. “To fully realize the potential of the energy economy in Jacksonville we need to look for innovative ways to partner, and this agreement is a big first step.”
