Partnership to Revolutionize the Treatment of Cancer

Baptist Health, the largest health care system in Northeast Florida, partnered with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to create Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center in October 2015. Founded 75 years ago, MD Anderson pioneered the concept of multidisciplinary cancer care and is known today as the No. 1 cancer center in America.

By replicating the proven MD Anderson care model of care here in Jacksonville, Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center benefits the health and life sciences industry by bringing together top medical professionals, the latest research, advanced technologies and clinical trials.

This can be a boom to the health and life sciences industry in Jacksonville, not only through the hiring of physicians and other health care professionals, but also through access to the latest research and clinical trials – many of which are led by MD Anderson physicians.

“This partnership is a major milestone as it creates something new and powerful for cancer patients and families in our region,” said Hugh Greene, President & CEO of Baptist Hospital. “By combining the strengths of Baptist Health and MD Anderson, patients of Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center now have access to the same proven cancer care treatment here that is provided in Houston.”

Today, Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center provides a single destination for highly coordinated, comprehensive oncology care for adult cancer patients and their families throughout the Southeast and beyond. Virtually everything a cancer patient needs is in one place — cancer specialists, radiology, imaging, infusion, genetics testing, research, and care coordinators as well as nutrition, psychology, pastoral care, financial counseling, rehabilitation, and prevention & wellness programs.

The current facility, which occupies 100,000 square feet at 1235 San Marco Blvd., will dramatically expand in early 2018 when an iconic, nine-story building of approximately 330,000 square feet will open on an adjacent, beautifully landscaped two-block tract of land which will include on-site parking for the convenience of patients and families.

The attention and exposure this level of partnership brings to the region is significant. Northeast Florida will be the nexus of this powerful partnership and extraordinary model for transforming cancer treatment in this community.
